    • Northeast Regional: Wilmington DE → Newark DE → Baltimore MD → Washington DC → Alexandria VA → (Woodbridge VA) → Quantico VA → Fredericksburg VA → Ashland VA → Richmond VA → Williamsburg VA → Newport News VA

    • Carolinian: Charlotte NC → Salisbury NC → High Point NC → Greensboro NC → Burlington NC → Durham NC → Raleigh NC → Petersburg VA → Richmond VA (change to Northeast Regional)

    • A new Newport News Amtrak station, which is closer to Jefferson Lab than the current one, is scheduled to open during summer 2024.

    • Greyhound/FlixBus



      The Greyhound/FlixBus Bus Stop closest to Jefferson Lab is in Hampton VA at the Hampton Transit Center.  (A new stop closer to Jefferson Lab may be added once the new Newport News Transit Center at the new Amtrak Station is open).

      • Route from Delmarva to Hampton is:
        • US0355: New York NY → Newark NJ → Wilmington DE → Dover DE → Salisbury MD → Princess Anne MD → Oak Hall VA → Hampton VA

      • Routes from North Carolina to Hampton are:
        • US0654s: Raleigh NC → Wilson NC → Rocky Mount NC → Tarboro NC → Ahoskie NC → Hampton VA
        • US0658s: Myrtle Beach SC → Wilmington NC → Jacksonville NC → New Bern NC → Washington NC → Greenville NC → Edenton NC → Elizabeth City NC → Hampton VA

      • From the Hampton Transit Center, Jefferson Lab can be reached using the Hampton Road Transit buses.  Current routes are expected to be updated after the opening of the new Newport News Transit Center at the new Amtrak Station.  Stay tuned for further information.

    • SprinterBus


      SprinterBus connects Dover DE to Newport News VA. Passengers are dropped off at the VIrginia Beach Stop, and then shuttled to the Newport News Stop by van.  See the SprinterBus website for schedule. The stop in Newport News is expected to move to the new Newport News Transit Center at the new Amtrak train station


  • Local Bus Routes



    • A new Newport News Transit Center will open at the new Amtrak train station during summer 2024.  We will announce the local bus routes that can be used to reach Jefferson Lab from the new Transit Center and the long distance bus stops (which will probably be relocated) after the Amtrak station/Transit Center opening.

    • This hotel does not have local shuttle service. If you need a lift to and from Jefferson Lab or to and from the Amtrak Train Station, please check the appropriate boxes on the registration form.

Lodging Support

    • We have limited funds to provide lodging support to high school teachers and community college faculty of up to $103/night at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Newport News for the nights of Friday, October 18, 2024 and Saturday, October 19, 2024

    • The support for community college faculty is provided by OPTYCs.

    • Please DO NOT inquire the hotel about this support! People receiving this support must make a reservation at the hotel using the link provided above and pay the hotel first, and then submit the hotel receipt to us. A check will be mailed to you later.

    • If you make a reservation at a different hotel, you will be reimbursed for the actual lodging fee up to and including $103/night but not more even if your rate exceeds this bound.

    • To apply, indicate the number of nights you would like to request support for in the registration form, and also fill in the requested information. The deadline to apply for this support is midnight of Sunday, September 8, 2024PLEASE NOTE THE EARLY DEADLINE! The application section on the registration form will be deactivated after this date. 

    • People selected for support will be notified by Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in time to take advantage of the CSAAPT group rate at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Newport News, the cutoff date for which is Sunday, September 15, 2024

    • Preference will be given to high school teachers and community college faculty who are presenting a talk or demo, those who must travel long distance to reach the Meeting site, and those who are CSAAPT or NCS-AAPT members.

    • If you are selected to receive this support, you will be requested to provide the following:                    

      • A copy of your work ID which proves that you are a current high school physics teacher or community college faculty                   
         
      • A copy of the detailed itemized receipt from the hotel                    
         
    • A check will be mailed to you after the meeting from one of our supporting institutions.
