Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

All participants are required to adhere to this code of conduct as well as JLab standard and ethics policies and APS standards. Our goal is to provide the best scientific and personal experience to all of the participants. The code of conduct is to be respected during the event, as well as for any communication with the organizers or other participants related to the event. Please report any breach of the code of conduct to the organizers or to relevant resources at JLab. Sanctions can go from a simple warning, to an exclusion of the workshop without refund, if needed with a notification to the proponent’s home institution, at the discretion of the organizers. The organizers reserve the right to reject any participation request, based on this code of conduct, if there is a significant risk to other participants.

1. Discrimination - No discriminatory statement or action shall be made against any other participants or third party, based on their gender or gender expression, sex or sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, national origin, regional/tribal origin, belonging to a specific group, political affiliation or opinions, accent or native language, marital and familial status, past military activities, disability or other medical status… This list is non exhaustive. Unwelcomed behavior include, for instance, inappropriate jokes and comments, commenting about women/minorities getting promotions, mockery, targeting certain groups of people, profiling, inferring with someone’s special accommodations, discussing someone’s medical condition…

2. Inadequate criticism - No criticism against the participation of an individual in this workshop will be tolerated. Participants are all here based on their scientific merit at organizer's decision. Defamation and non-scientific comments are not accepted.

3. Unwelcome sexual behavior - Sexual harassment and any kind of sexual or suggesting behavior are prohibited. This includes inappropriate jokes, language, offensive images, inappropriate questions, insisting to "match" colleagues together, asking for sexual favors (for oneself or for someone else)... Unwanted touching and assault, sexual or not, or threats to do so, are prohibited and will trigger a report.

4. Stalking - It is a form of harassment triggered by the willingness to intrude on someone's privacy or control their life against their will or without their knowledge. Participants in this event should not, in any case, provide personal information about others or help arrange non-consensual "meetings" at someone's request,(rather encourage this person to send an email directly).

5. Other forms of harassment - It includes bullying, academic bullying, blackmailing and other forms of threats, defaming and attempting to alter someone’s reputation, intimidating behavior or language, attempting to make someone feel bad about themselves, offensive nicknames... Whether it is intentional or unintentional, direct or indirect (propagating slanders made by someone else for instance), no forms of harassment will be tolerated during this event.

6. Physical violence - Physical violence, assault, and threats of violence will be immediately reported to the police department and home institution.

7. Role of the bystanders - Every complain to the organizers will be taken seriously and no retaliation nor "victim blaming" will be tolerated. Actions will be taken if necessary. "If you see something say something": we encourage all participants to intervene, if they can do it safely, if they witness something wrong, and not let a potential victim alone. Talking afterwards is fine, but please keep in mind that silence or lack of intervention, in some cases, can be seen as complicity.

8. Right of image - Photography without permission is prohibited, and diffusion of a photograph where an individual can be identified is subject to obtaining the permission of that person prior sharing. However, please consider that group pictures may be shared after the event.
