Traveling to the Meeting Site/Hotel

  • By Car: Please follow the directions of Google Maps to:  
     
  • By Long Distance Bus: The Virginia Breeze Bus Lines has two routes that connect DC, and various parts of the Shenandoah Valley with Harrisonburg:

    • The Virginia Breeze bus stop in Harrisonburg is at the Godwin Transit Center (Google Map) facing the JMU Bookstore (Google Map), right at the center of the JMU campus.

    • Arrival/Departure times are:  
       
      • Valley Flyer Northbound: 10:45AM (daily)
      • Valley Flyer Southbound: 12:50PM (daily)
      • Highlands Rhythm Northbound: 3:40PM (daily)
      • Highlands Rhythm Southbound: 4:00PM (daily)   
         
    • Getting to the meeting site (King Hall) from the Godwin Transit Center  
      (for people who are arriving on Saturday on Valley Flyer for the afternoon sessions of the Meeting) :
      • 11-minute walk
      • On Saturdays, the East Campus bound Inner Campus Shuttle departs from the Godwin Transit Center bus stop (different location from the Virginia Breeze bus stop) once every 30 minutes starting from 9:30AM until 10:30PM.  Make sure to get on the East Campus bound shuttle. The Physics/Chemistry Stop is 5 minutes away.   
         
    • Getting to Hotel Madison from the Godwin Transit Center  
      (for people who are arriving on Friday) :

  • A block of hotel rooms at a reduced rate of $96.00 + 12.3% tax = $107.81 (for both 1 King and 2 Queen rooms) per night is available for the nights of Friday, March 31, 2023 and Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Hotel Madison and Shenandoah Valley Conference Center (Google Maps) which is toward the north end of the JMU campus  
     
  • The cutoff date to reserve rooms at this rate is midnight of Tuesday, February 28, 2023.  
     
  • Breakfast is NOT included in this rate (Continental breakfast will be available at the Meeting Site on Saturday morning)  
     
  • There is also an additional charge of $5.00 + 12.3% tax = $5.62/day for parking  
     

How to make a reservation :


Parking at the Hotel ($5.00 + tax / day) :

  • Enter the Mason Street Parking Deck (Google Map) from the Martin Luther King Jr. Way entrance  

       
    If you are using the Inner Campus Shuttle bus, get off at the Grace St. at Madison Hall bus stop to access the hotel and planetarium.  

       
    The Mason Street Parking Desk must be approached from the north since a central divider on MLK Jr. Way blocks you from turning left into the Parking Deck when approached from the south  
     
  • A covered walkway will take you from the lowest level (MLK Jr. Way Entrance Level) of the Parking Deck to the Mezzanine Level of the Hotel.  Take the stairs or elevator down to the Lobby Level where the front desk is for check in.  

     

Lodging Support  

We have limited funds to provide lodging support to high school teachers of up to $115/night at the Hotel Madison and Shenandoah Valley Conference Center for the nights of Friday, March 31, 2023 and Saturday, April 1, 2023  

Please DO NOT inquire the hotel about this support!  People receiving this support must make a reservation at the hotel using the link below and pay the hotel first, and then submit the hotel receipt to us.  A check will be mailed to you later.  

To apply, indicate the number of nights you would like to request support for in the registration form, and also fill in the requested information.  The deadline to apply for this support is Friday, February 24, 2023.  The application section on the registration form will be deactivated after this date.  

People selected for support will be notified by Monday, February 27, 2023, in time to take advantage of the CSAAPT group rate at the Hotel Madison and Shenandoah Valley Conference Center, the cutoff date for which is Tuesday, February 28, 2022.

Preference will be given to high school teachers who are presenting a talk or demo, those who must travel long distance to reach the Meeting site, and those who are CSAAPT members.

If you are selected to receive this support, you will be requested to provide the following:

  • A copy of your School ID which proves that you are a current high school physics teacher  
     
  • A copy of the detailed receipt from the hotel

A check will be mailed to you after the meeting from one of our supporting institutions.

    (Bus service by the Harrisonburg Department of Public TransportationFREE!)  
     
    • Weekdays: Runs from 7AM to 7PM, every 5 minutes. Click on the map below for a time table. DOES NOT STOP AT THE GODWIN TRANSIT CENTER.  
       
    • Weeknights & Saturdays: runs from 7PM to 11PM on weeknights, 9AM to 11PM on Saturdays, every 30 minutes. Click on the map below for a time table.
